SEO new movabale type

Ok, so this post might be a sell out, but since none of the movable type seo advice tutorials I’ve seen so far do it right I thought it was time for someone (me) to do better. I assume you have done some research so I won’t go through the purpose of the meta tags. In this example I will be adding author, keywords and description meta tags.

In your entry template find the line <mtsetvarblock name=”html_head”> and add the following lines.
<meta name=”author” content=”<$MTEntryAuthor$>” />
<meta name=”keywords” content=”<$MTEntryKeywords encode_html=”1″$>” />
<meta name=”description” content=”<$MTEntryExcerpt encode_html=”1″$>” />
Do the same for the page template, but use the variables MTPageAuthorDisplayName, MTPageKeywords and MTPageExcerpt.

The final result should look like

[Entry template]

————————————————————————————————————————-

<mtsetvarblock name=”html_head”>

<meta name=”author” content=”<$MTEntryAuthor$>” />

<meta name=”keywords” content=”<$MTEntryKeywordsencode_html=”1″$>” />

<meta name=”description” content=”<$MTEntryExcerpt encode_html=”1″$>” />

————————————————————————————————————————-

[Page template]

————————————————————————————————————————-

<MTSetVarBlock name=”html_head”>

<meta name=”author” content=”<$MTPageAuthorDisplayName$>” />

<meta name=”keywords” content=”<$MTPageKeywords encode_html=”1″$ >” />

<meta name=”description” content=”<$MTPageExcerpt encode_html=”1″$>” />

————————————————————————————————————————-

The big difference between my method and most others is that I supply the encode_html directive. This means that if your entry contains html tokens, such as the double quote (“) it will be encoded as &qout; inside the meta tags, rather than breaking your html which the ” by itself would do.

For the index lists, such as the index page, archives, author entry list and so forth I would recommend using static content for seo. The reason for this is that the MT tags we have just used are context sensitive. So if you used the entry tags in the author list it would only display the content of the last entry for this author due to the context.

Phishing attack targets Hotmail

Thousands of accounts on web-based e-mail system Hotmail have been compromised in a phishing attack, software giant Microsoft has confirmed.windows_live

BBC News has seen a list of more than 10,000 e-mail accounts, predominantly originating from Europe, and passwords which were posted online.

Microsoft said it had launched an investigation.

Phishing involves using fake websites to lure people into revealing details such as bank accounts or login names.

“We are aware that some Windows Live Hotmail customers’ credentials were acquired illegally and exposed on a website,” said a Microsoft spokesperson.

“Upon learning of the issue, we immediately requested that the credentials be removed and launched an investigation to determine the impact to customers.”

Quick change

Graham Cluley, consultant at security firm Sophos, told BBC News the published list may just be a subset of a longer list of compromised accounts.

“We still don’t know the scale of the problem,” he told BBC News.

Technology blog neowin.net was the first to publish details of the attack. It said the accounts were posted on 1 October to pastebin.com, a website commonly used by developers to share code.

Although the details have since been removed, BBC News and Neowin has seen a list of 10,028 names beginning with the letters A and B.

BBC News has confirmed that the accounts are genuine and predominantly originate in Europe.

The list included details of Microsoft’s Windows Live Hotmail accounts with email addresses ending hotmail.com, msn.com and live.com.

Mr Cluley advised Hotmail users to change their password as soon as possible.

“I’d also recommend that people change the password on any other site where they use it,” he said.

Around 40% of people use the same password for every website they use, he added.

Hotmail is currently the largest web-based e-mail service.

Bhuvan -Google Earth..!!!

Bhuvan makes a splash in cyberspace

Seven days after it was launched, Isro’s answer to Google Earth gets nearly 23,000 downloads a day

Touted as India’s answer to Google Earth and Microsoft’s Virtual Earth, Bhuvan — a geoportal that allows users to explore a virtual world for free in a 3D environment, with specific emphasis on India — is receiving phenomenal response. Just seven days after it was launched on August 13, nearly 23,000 people from 70 countries around the world have been downloading it daily — amounting to156,000 downloads till date.

“Around 100 people have been registering with us every minute during peak hours, and 35 to 40 people have been registering to download this application every minute since the launch,” V Jayaraman, director, National Remote Sensing Agency (NRSA), told Business Standard.

A 20-member team from NRSA (a part of Isro) had a lead role in designing and developing Bhuvan under the direction of Jayaraman and Isro Chairman Madhavan Nair.

“We wanted to showcase India’s geo-capabilities. Bhuvan remains a visualisation tool. However, it’s not a new idea. We have been deliberating on it for some time, having played around with thematic data for years. Our data products are being sold both in India and abroad. So we have a lot of experience in this space. We are only building on it,” asserts Jayaraman.

Bhuvan, meaning Earth, allows users to view satellite imagery, value added information like the National Agricultural Drought Monitoring System (NADAMS), output of flood studies for certain areas, thematic information (wastelands, soils, watershed,water resources related maps), base layers (administrative boundaries, transport layers, water bodies, etc), and census information.

It’s mandatory to register to use Bhuvan. The basic version of Bhuvan is free. Once you register and log in, you will be asked to download a Bhuvan plug-in. Once you successfully register, you will land on the Bhuvan 3D client page. The main window shows a globe, and you can navigate with your mouse or use the Heads-Up Display (HUD) option available on the right top corner. Double right click to zoom in, and double left click to zoom out (or use your mousewheel). Right click, hold and drag to pan.

Bhuvan is an initiative to showcase this distinctiveness of Indian imaging capabilities, including the thematic information derived from such imagery which could be of vital importance to the common man, with a focus on Indian region, says Jayaraman.

It displays satellite images of varying resolution of India’s surface, allowing users to see things like cities and important places of interest looking perpendicularly down or at an oblique angle, with different perspectives and can navigate through a 3D viewing environment.

The degree of resolution showcased is based on the points of interest and popularity, but most of the Indian terrain is covered up to at least 5.8 metres of resolution.

Comparisons are odious but cannot be avoided with Google Earth and Microsoft’s Virtual Earth. “These comparisons are a media creation,” says Jayaraman. “Hats off to the remote sensing capabilities of these two companies. However, I must say that when it comes to India, we have very high-resolution images. We do not put this up on the website due to security concerns,” he adds.

For instance, if Google Earth shows details upto 200 metres distance and Wikimapia upto 50 metres, Bhuvan can show images up to 10 metres, which means you can easily see details up to a three storey building.

But then, while Google Earth works on a downloadable client, Bhuvan works only on Windows and within Internet Explorer. “We will definitely get it to work on Linux and open source browsers in the long term. This is a beta version, and we support open source,” says Jayaraman.

There are some other bugs in this beta version that are being ironed out. For instance, in the current version, you cannot add your own data (which you can do on Google Earth).

Users say the globe is slow to load. Besides, much of the data that ISRO says can be seen is not easily viewable. Jayaram admits to the bugs and says: “It’s a work in progress, and the loads of feedback that we’re getting will help us improve this product in the coming days.”

Over time, he adds, many more unique functionalities will be added to this tool to address the common man’s problems, particularly in the rural set-up of India and addressing natural resources management issues.

Download World of Warcraft Mac Client PTR Update 3.2.0 – Free

Blizzard Entertainment has released an update to the Mac version of World of Warcraft. The World of Warcraft PTR Updater provides new features and changes that are applied to the test environment (realm) in order to more effectively test new features, making their way into the official WoW game. The test realm patch notes only apply to features that exist on the public test realms.

As usual, Blizzard has posted a mile-long changelog for the update. Speaking of the General changes, the developer reveals that the construction of the Crusaders’ Coliseum is complete. “New raid normal and Heroic modes for the Crusaders’ Coliseum can be toggled using the Dungeon Difficulty setting,” Blizzard says. “This applies t10 and 25-player versions. 10-player (normal), 25-player (normal), 10-player (Heroic) and 25-player (Heroic) all share separate raid lockout timers,” Blizzard explains.

Also, players with the Crusader title should be glad to hear that all their new Argent Crusader daily quests and rewards have been added. “Rewards include a new Argent Crusader banner and tabard (which can port players to the tournament grounds), a mounted squire (can periodically run bank, mail or vendor errands for the player), a paladin-exclusive Argent Crusader Charger mount, and new heirloom items,” according to the release notes.

Other General changes include:

· Trial of the Champion;
· Five-player (normal and Heroic mode) dungeon;
· Daily quest added to the Heroic daily dungeon quest giver;
· Trial of the Crusader;
· 10 and 25-player (normal mode) raid dungeon;
· Trial of the Grand Crusader;
· 10 and 25-player (Heroic mode) raid dungeon;
· New Dungeon Loot Feature.

Additionally, players will now be able to trade soulbound items with other raid or group members that were eligible for the loot. According to the makers of WoW, this system will work like the Item Buy Back system and allow two hours for players to trade an item after it has been looted.
